This year the scout sailing ship Biscaya offers two sailing trips for international participants. We have opened up for this opportunity because we all value scouting as a global organisation and of course because we want to share the beauty of the Swedish landscapes and waters with our scout friends from around the world.
Biscaya is a beautiful wooden sailing ship that was built in 1933. Since 70 years back, Biscaya sails every summer with scouts in and around the Baltic Sea region, offering scouts the amazing opportunity to see new places and meet new friends at the same time as they learn about sailing and life on the sea. Onboard there are four skippers and twelve participants. We all share and take part in the daily routine onboard, such as sailing the vessel, navigation, cooking, planning the trip and so on.
The variety of things you will experience on a sailing trip with Biscaya is always striking, and as a participant, you can often help to plan the trip to see the things you want to see.
During this summer we are sailing north to see the untouched lands of reindeers, Sami culture and midnight sun, and to explore where the Baltic sea ends. Experience the uniqueness of Sweden’s and Finland’s archipelago, a feature that is very rare and only exist in a few other places around the world. The UNESCO world heritage of Höga Kusten, will surely take your breath away where the dramatic landscapes meet the calm waters.
We hope that this opportunity, to not only see the fantastic landscapes, but also to learn a lot about sailing and meeting new friends on the way, seems like something for you. The memory of a lifetime awaits – we hope you want to join us this summer!
Below you see the image of the Baltic Sea and Biscaya’s five sail trips for the summer of 2015, however it is only number III and IV that are open for international participants.
To participate you have to be a member in the scout organisation in your country (so that you are insured – see application link below). You also have to be at least 15 years old and you have to be able to swim 200 meters. You do not, however, have to have any sailing experience; every year we have plenty of beginners. As long as you are keen on learning new things and want to experience a new adventure you are welcome to join us. Below follows details of the international sailing trips.
